| EXCELLENCE IN FUTURE |
At a time when independent India's first hydro-electric dam project, the Hirakud Dam was nearing its completion in 1956, the first engineering college of the state of Orissa was established. On August 12, 1956 a long held dream of many prominent personalities (including the then chief minister of Orissa, Mr. Biju Patnaik) was fulfilled, just after 2 years of establishment of the IIT in Kharagpur. UCE started with only three departments (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering) with best technical facilities of that time and it still continues that heritage.
